1. General
This Technical Order is the Illustrated Parts Catalog for the Army model P-40M and P-40N airplanes.and British model Kittyhawk III and IV. It is ti be used as a means if identifying, locating and ordering replacement parts for the maintanance of these models. This Catalog consists of an Illustrated Group Assembly Parts List, a Numerical Parts List, a Standard parts List and an Illustrated Service tools ans Loose Equipment list.

2. Group Assembly Parts List:
(A) The Group Assembly Parts List contained in this Catalog is broken down into the following groups:
    Wing
    Tail
    Fuselage
    Alighting Gear
    Power Plant
    Fixed Equipment

(B) The groups in turn are further broken down into major assemblies, subassemblies and detail parts properly indented to show relationship to the airplae itself

(C) A brief explenation of the Contractors numbering system is given to serve as an aid in determining the location of an installation, assembly or detail part.

Model designation, which shows the airplane model to which the part applies. Unit designation. The first digit of which shows the Group to which the part belongs. The last two digits indicate the breakdown with in the Group. Serial number which indicates the particular sub-assembly or details part.


Chart 1 shows the Unit Designation numbers used in this Catalog and indicates the Group in the Group Assembly Parts List in which they occur. To use this chart merely locate the Unit Designation of the part involved. Then read the name id the group in which that part falls.

(D) Major Assembly items appearing in column numbers one are those which compromise the Airplane General Assembly Blueprint. To facilitate identification of the Major Assembly to which an installation, or an assembly requiring a separate breakdown belongs, the following procedure has been utilized throghout this catalog.


Wing Erection, or any other title preceding the dash, is the name of the Major Assembly to which a specific breakdown belongs. In the foregoing example, the Major Assembly is Wing Erection, and the breakdown, as well as the Illistration title, is Wing Panel Assembly.

E) In the Group Assembly Parts List, any tiem listed in a specific column is both a part of and assembled on the item preceding in the column to the left. LH or RH following the nomenclature of a part identifieds the side of the preceding Assembly or installation to which it is attached.
