This is a conventional switch with the usual four positions: OFF, L, R, and BOTH.
P-40's have one of three types of starters:
A. The usual foot-operated pedal with ENERGIZE, ENGAGE, and OFF positions.
B. A toggle switch below the throttle quadrant with the same three positions.
C. P-40 F and L models have direct-drive starters.
The primer is below the dashboard. Unlock the pump by turning the handle counter-clock wise to ON. Lock by pushing the handle in and turning clock-wise to OFF.
The speed -of the engine is indicated in revolutions per minute on a tachometer calibrated in hundreds of rpm up to 45.
This gage is calibrated in inches of mercury ranging from 10" to 75".
