Crosswind Landings

When landing in a strong crosswind of more than 15', or in a gusty wind, come in slightly hot, wheels first, and don't use more than 30' of flaps. The recommended way to correct for crosswind in the P-40 is by clipping a wing into the wind. After the airplane is on. the ground be careful not to over control it. In a crosswind the nose tends to swing into the wind. Correct this by using rudder and brakes.

Experienced pilots can make 3-point landings in a crosswind or gusty wind, but it is a maneuver requiring a high degree of skill. To be safe, land wheels first.

Wet Landings

When landing on a wet surface, take it easy with your brakes and controls. Again, a wheels first landing is your best bet. Use 1/2 flaps. Taxi slowly and use your brakes sparingly.
