Photos from Berlin (July 22, 2006)

These are some pictures I took during my trip to Berlin.

I arrived bright and early to the new Berlin train station. Quite impressive!
Although I would not want to meet the person who left their shoes behind

The Reichstag was amaizing. Specially interesting was the glass cupula. From the top you had a great view of the city. The day was perfect.

There were so many sights to see right by the Reichstag. I missed a few, like check point Charlie but I got some of the others.
The Brandenburg gate was just like in the movies. There is a lot of construction going on and some of the historical sights seemed te be getting
crowded out. The Swiss Embassy was the only embassy in Berlin to survive the war with out looking like, well, Swiss cheese.

On this particular day there were some interesting festivities going on. There was a motorcycle rally and lots of buses full of happy people,
almost gay you could say.

With traffic all messed up, I was unable to get back to my sight seeing bus. So I decided to walk from Kant Strasse to the Egyptian museum on
Otto Suhr Alle. This turned out to be a long walk under the hot sun. When I got there the thought of walking so more was not very apealing.
So I took a few picture of the out side and headed back downtown. Notice the giant Fussball game. I personaly would like to go
in to battle with something more than a sword and shield.

After a hot trip in the U-Bahn I landed in Postdamer plaza. The multiplex was quite unique. Walking back towards the train station I went past the
Holocauts memorial. There where many remnants of the cold war. The crosses show the names of the people shot while trying to swin to West Berlin.
There are also gaps where the wall used to be. I am not sure what the big pill symbolises, perhaps its the cost of reunification.

I made it back to the station with only moments to spare (OK, make that half an hour). All in all Berlin is a realy neat city
and I can't wait to go back and spend more time there.
