WHEEL INDICATORS

On all models except L, N, and late M's, there is an electric wheel and flap indicator on the instrument panel. Three tabs in the indicator show the relative position of the main landing gear and the tailwheel. (A pointer indicator shows the position of the flaps,)

The wheel indicator on the L, N, and late M's is a yellow peg which rises directly above the oleo strut hinge on both right and left main wheels when the gear is down. The peg rises as the wheel extends, and it goes down when the wheel retracts.

FLAPS

The flap controls have three positionsDOWN, NEUTRAL, and UP. The flaps are operated hydraulically by an electric toggle switch on the forward side of the stick. When you want to move your flaps up or down, put the flap control into the UP or DOWN position and depress the toggle switch. (You can also operate them manually by using the hand hydraulic pump.)

You can lower the flaps to an angle of 450 or stop them at any point before 45'.

The L, N, and late M models have peg flap indicators. The indicator peg rises from the trailing edge of the wing. The peg is fully extended from the wing when the flaps are full down. Colored bands indicate the degree of extension of the flaps in this manner:

Yellow .......................15'

Yellow and green ..........30'

Green and red ...............45'

The position of the flaps on all other P-40 models is shown by a pointer on the wheel and flap indicator on the instrument panel.
