Two kinds of radio are used in the P-40 the VHF 522-A and the SCR 274-N. The VHF is a very high frequency radio; the 274-N is a longrange radio that can receive high, medium and low frequencies.
The VHF has a push button control with an OFF position and four channels for transmitting and receiving. The radio is on when one of the channel buttons is pushed in.
A Channel is for squadron inter plane communication B Channel is the all-American common frequency. You can contact all radio towers using VHF on B Channel, and you can also use it for emergency homings.
C and D Channels are generally used for local tower and local homing station frequencies.
