Never spin the P-40 intentionally. Spins in this airplane should be avoided.

Spins in the P-40 are usually a result of one of the following:

1. Tight vertical turns.

2. Uncoordinated turns.

3. Stalling out of the top of the loop or Immelmann.

4. Steep turns at low airspeeds.

It is possible to make the rudder lock in the full left position if you skid the airplane with almost full left rudder at a fairly low airspeed, and then suddenly apply power. This may cause a spin. Rudder-load reversals are seldom, if ever, encountered at normal speeds and in normal maneuvers, but if it should happen to you, retard the throttle immediately. With power reduced, you should have no further trouble in centralizing the rudder.

Rudder locking has not been experienced in the P-40's with extended fuselages-the M and N models.
