1. Set the coolant shutters in full OPEN.

2. Crack the throttle 1/4 open.

3. Set mixture control in IDLE CUT-OFF.

4. Set the propeller control full forward; place the propeller switches in ON and AUTO.

5. Set carburetor air control in COLD.

6. Turn fuel selector to fuselage tank.

7. Call "Clear!" in a loud and distinct voice. Receive acknowledgement from the crew chief.

8. Turn ignition switch to BOTH.

9. Turn battery switch ON.

10. Turn on the three MISCELLANEOUS breaker switches. (On the P-40 N turn on the two right-hand breaker switches.)

11. Turn on the electric fuel booster pump.

12. Begin energizing the starter.

13. Prime the engine one stroke if warm, three strokes if cold.

14. Engage starter. When the engine starts firing, advance the mixture control to the AUTO RICH position

15. Retard the throttle to idle at 1000 rpm.
